I have kind of a weird question...

Sorry didnt know anyone else on DS that would know the answer to this...but you guys!!! Well here is what I have to ask:
My son is finally getting his tongue clipped since he is tongue tied...he is 9 months old and couldn't latch at birth and I dried up even though I tried and kept milk for like 3 weeks after he was born by pumping. Now that he is getting his tongue fixed so he can suck good can I breastfeed again? I wanted to so bad but It didn't work out like I wanted. This was my last baby and only one I tried to BF...is there anyway to do it?

Re: I have kind of a weird question...

I would think you could. I would contact your local La Leche League leader and get a referral for a lactation consultant that has dealt with this. You will have to pump first, because it may take a little bit to help him latch. I was at a meeting yesterday where a mother is working on breastfeeding her 9 mo adopted daughter. She has been pumping to induce lactation and working on latching better. It is definitely do-able! I really wish you the best and hope you can

Yes, I know it is possible! Talk to your OBGYN about getting started again!

I am sure that you can breastfeed again! I've never had to relactate but I really hope some ladies around here some advice for you.

ETA: Ok the more I think about it I guess your first course of action would be pumping to get a supply going. Definetly drink tons of fluid too. Once you have a supply it shouldn't be too hard to get him to latch on!

Re: I have kind of a weird question...

found a good reference link for you. If an adoptive mom that has not given birth can, I don't see why you couldn't

Mother's milk tea avail @ any healthfood store. Also, oatmeal ( http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/oatmeal.html ).

Re: I have kind of a weird question...

My DD had the same issue with tongue-tie and clamping down. After a horrible few months of supplementation with formula, I was able to relactate thanks to a supportive ob/gyn nurse practitioner (suggested the use of a nipple shield temporarily) and an understanding pediatrician (recommended fenugreek and dark beer!). Our new little one has the same issues, but I'm more ready to handle the situation this time around. Just do your best to stay positive and not beat yourself up over it (like I did)...
