To reduce the friction a little olive oil in the horns where your nipple will go works well or Gerber makes a breast balm that you can also do that with. It has a smoother texture than lanolin.

When you are at home but not pumping, leave your bra flaps open, with or without a shirt on, it helps them get some air and heal.

When you do need to have your bra fastened (going out), try the soothing gel nipple pads. They are excellent.

I EP'd for the first 5 weeks while my youngest DS was in the NICU and I found some things that helped me a lot. I posted some pumping tips on another thread. I will add the link here when I find it.

I agree with the above poster - you need to lube your nips I use the spray lanolin by the first years. It is lanolin and some other oils mixed together.

I am not super fond of straight lanolin, I use the Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple butter and love it.
