Unhappy I made a HUGE mistake............

and feel so guilty for it. I was just so tired and my nipples were so sore, I decided to open that can of formula and give Lilly a bottle. She drank it down and fell fast asleep, I will admit I was hapy to be able to sleep. She woke up 5 hours later covered in puke. It was dark and I had no idea of how much it really was (I figured it out this morning). This morning she threw up again ~ a lot and the second I smelt it I knew what it was ~ FORMULA I felt so bad and so guilty, I dumped the rest of the formula and called dh to tell him never agian, no matter what. He too felt bad for encourging it. why did she get so sick from just a few ozs.? I know that's what it was, I've bf the rest of the day (all all days previous) and never had her do this. Both of my other kids had very sensitive stomachs as well (both EFF) but this seems extreme, or is it? Well, no matter what Lilly will be EBF until she is at least 1.

Awww. *hugs* It's okay mama. It was probably just a really big change, and sensitive stomachs have a hard time with that. I know my DS (who's almost 6 months) had a really hard time w/me having to supplement. Going back and forth from breastmilk to formula was really hard on him at first. He's just now getting to the point where he doesn't spit up half of his formula every time.

I'm sorry she got sick from it. When Kolten was about 7 months old, I did the same thing, but because we were all sick and I felt too tired to even nurse him. He got sick about 3 times off of 1 8 oz. bottle of formula...he never got any again. Good for you for saying you'll stick it out.

Hugs, mama! Don't feel bad, we've all gotten desperate at some time or other and formula is so tempting! Maybe he was sensitive to that particular formula (some babies need soy) Well, at least now you have a real reason to keep up the BFing!

Re: I made a HUGE mistake............

Formula is a lot harder for her to digest as well as possiable dairy issues. I am sorry that happened though. Good for you for deciding not to ever again. And
she will be okay.

Re: I made a HUGE mistake............

It was Soy formula as my others needed that kind, maybe she is just more sensitive. They really should make formula harder to obtain or at least easier on the stomachs. I know my kids can't be the only ones with sensitive stomachs (and dairy allergies). She only drank 2 ozs and I know she let go far more than that. Oh, and the smell of that stuff is just disgusting. There is no way that can be "the next best thing".

It was probably just the sudden change. When we were switching from formula to cows milk, it was really hard on DS. And we were even doing it "gradually".

my kids were both like that. One end or the other, it was coming out!

they are just way more sensitive than the average kiddo. I have no idea why.

Re: I made a HUGE mistake............

soy is also on the top ten allergy list mama. and really most children that are honestly ALLERGIC to milk and not just SENSITIVE to it are also allergic to soy. my oldest ds was one of these kids and the formula for him cost 25 for one of those average sized can..they don't even make it in the big ones.it was horrilbe.

anyhow i had some desparate moments a few weeks ago and had bottle in hand and was crying. i ended up putting the damn thing down and just sitting and crying...thank goodness for this board i tell you that!!!

good for you for deciding to stick with it...those moments are hard on us all.

oh by the way...she is BE-A-U-TI-FUL!!!!!!!!!!!
