I thought I was prepared. My first "are you still nursing?" comment

UGH. MIL (who is a known passive aggressive beast) gave me the old "Are you still nursing?" deal last night. It came complete with tone and the look. She hardly bfed at all and I knew from ds #1 that she wasn't supportive of bfing, so I don't know why this irked me so badly. He's 11 months old. Yes I'm still bfing him so just hold still while I punch that ugly smirk off of your face. *KA POW!* What bugs me the most is that I let her bug me at all.

ss mama I think it's awesome you are still nursing.. I would have loved to have nursed that long... I only got to 4 months, but my LO is adopted, so stopped because I wasn't able to induce lactation like I hoped... and I got tired of messing with the supplementor.

You are doing a great thing for your LO!

I've been getting those comments already and my son is only 8 months! I still haven't come up with a snide comeback.

I hate those comments, too. I think if I were you I'd write a short speech about the benefits of extended breastfeeding and wail it all on her lol.

yay for you for still nursing

My dad finally quit asking when I was going to stop, probably because I always told him "oh, ten minutes or so" whenever he asked He's over it. The rest of the famil banked on dd's getting teeth to cause immediate MLW, and it hasn't either.

Geez, you're already getting those comments and your LO isn't even a year old. You should say, "You know we're going to go *at least* a year." If you say that ever time you can say, "I don't know why you keep asking when you know the answer." Once we past a year I would say, "Its free, its good for him, and he loves it, so why would I stop?"

Re: I thought I was prepared. My first "are you still nursing?" comment

sorry you have to deal with that! I let my coworkers know early on (when they asked) that I'll go at least a year and then whenever DS wants to stop or I'll cut him off at 2 yrs. Answering that way since he was a month old has saved a bunch of questions now that he is nearing a year. They think I'm odd (cloth diapering and still Breastfeeding) but that's ok.

congrats on b******.
You could get snarky with her and say "by the time s/he's in school". That might get mil to back off.
hehehe

or you could say, "well, it's only been x minutes, he nurses for at least x minutes. "

The best reply I have heard from a mama on here was, "every time you ask, I had six months."
