How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??

I am just curious, I am not pregnant now, but just thinking for the next baby when it comes. Unfortunately, insurance won't cover anything homebirth in Nebraska, midwife assisted deliveries are not legal...but I know they do happen "underground" and I think a few come over from Iowa. I just have no idea how much one charges for a homebirth? If it is a set amount for the delivery and so much for prenatals?

Any info would be much appreciated!

My MW charges 3200 for a HB, and that includes all prenatals, and post pardum care.

I paid 3600 here in CA. That included all prenatal and post pardum visits, but no homebirthing supplies or tests. Technically it's illegal for midwives to practice here without an MD to back them up, but it's still pretty available. I just had to sign a release form saying that I understood that they didn't have an MD to back them up. Having a midwife was really, really nice, even if I didn't get the homebirth I wanted. The standard of care is so different than going to an OB/GYN (at least in my experience).

4200 here in SoCal. We're uninsured. It would be nice if they gave a cash discount but they don't... either way it's still way cheaper than a hospital birth.

I've interviewed quite a few midwives. Prices are usually sliding scale, starting at $1800 up to $4000, depending on the midwife. I've told my midwife I can agree to the lower end by the time needed and hopefully give more when I can.
