Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
My midwives charge $750 plus any vitamins/supplements and 40 cents per mile to come here. It's about a 1 hour 20 minute drive. We've had two beautiful homebirths and are planning our third in February!

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
i think it's around $1000 here in SW MI when i looked into it. I hope it stays around that price or we will be priced out of affording it...
Stupid insurance will only cover it if it's a CNM and no CNMs do home births here...Oye!!

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
I just talked to a group of midwives about this yesterday. I am currently seeing an ob but wanted to look into the homebirth. The group here charges $2900 and that is for all prenatal care and birth. They do payment plans and do not file with insurance. I think our insurance would cover 80% but still not sure on that. My dh is so not onboard with the homebirth. I still have some time ot talk him into it.

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
My mw charged $1600 for everything, and we had a $100 extra charge for cord blood collection and a lab test. My insurance does cover some - after we meet our $400 deductible, insurance will cover 70% of the remaining $1200.
ETA: we had to buy some supplies also...probably less than $100 worth, though.

Who did you use? I am in Richland and wanting a homebirth for our next...if we can afford it, i know our insurance won't cover a penny!

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
My MW charges about $3200, which includes prenatal care, delivery and postnatal care. Lab fees and RhoGam (if necessary) are separately billed with the lab. There is also an additional $150 for the home birth supplies. She can't legally attend a home birth in SD until July 1, so I'll be delivering (if this baby ever decides to show up) across the border at her office in Wyoming.

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
My MW was a DEM and charged $1500 for everything- prenatals (including giving me vitamins and supplements), delivery, and PP care. However, we only had to pay her $50/ appt since we were planning on UC'ing and she wasn't going to charge us the full amount if she didn't attend the birth...so it cost us a total of maybe $3-400?
However, the other MW's available in my area are mostly CPM's and they all charge about $3-4000!! That's more than we'd pay OOP for a hospital birth after insurance, and our insurance WON'T cover homebirth unless it's with a CNM (which is dumb becaue they won't do homebirths here). |

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
Isn't this stupid...when a homebirth costs them sooo much less and they won't pay for it. I plan on fighting it with appeals...or going to the hospital for a quick jaunt just to screw my insurance company...lol...but i know many who have appealed with bcbs and had no luck. I tried to get preapproval and never heard back...oye!

Re: How much did your homebirth midwife cost if you paid out of pocket??
Our MW is $2100 for prenatals, delivery, and post partum.
I interviewed 4 and there was a sliding scale anywhere from $1800-$3500.
