Unhappy Why is he making himself throw up?

This is the second day in a row that Sean has stuck his fingers down his throat and made himself throw up. Is this normal 11 month old behavior? Is it just something that he figured out how to do and he'll outgrow it soon? It's disturbing to me!

I can understand why it would be disturbing! but I have also heard a few sotries of moms with kids who do this and they tend to grow out of it - especailly if there is no reaction given by the adult... if you're really concerend you can always phone his doc

In 20 years of daycare, about 1/3 of my toddlers do this. It is gross, But, sometimes kids are weird.

It's a phase. Soon, he will find his penis and a whole new worlde opens up.

OOH. Also, I forgot..

If he thinks there is something in his throat, like chicken pox, swollen tonsils, or just anything that he thinks he feels back there, he will stick his hands down his throat too.

It's most likely just a phase, but keep an eye on it anyway.

So true!

My kids only did this when they had a sore throat.

That's what I've heard!

My DH thinks that he's trying to get that little piece of skin (uvula?) that hangs in the back of his mouth.

Re: Why is he making himself throw up?

My 22 mos DD recenly discovered her gag reflex. It totally trips us because she's able to stick her ENTIRE hand (up to her wrist) in her mouth! What we can figure out is why she's want to engage in creating such an unpleasant sensation, but as DH pointed out, it's interesting, and she has no idea gagging leads to vomiting. Guess we'll just have to ignore it 'til she outgrows this habit. Yeah, toddlers are weird.

Yeah I would say it's just a new discovery/phase...and I had to respond to this because my almost 8 year old has been doing this a lot lately. Not the throwing up part, just the gagging on purpose. Kids ARE weird!
