Talking Two years of bf'ing today!

I am so happy and proud! Today is DS's second birthday which therefor means that we have been nursing for two years! I am really proud that we are still nursing, even though it hasn't always been easy.

Here is a quick recap
6-13-06 Being terrified about if I would make milk, if my inverted nipples would come out and if it would really hurt and everyone had just lied and said it wouldn't. (I was the first on my side of the family to nurse). Would I meet my short term goal of 3 months, let alone my *gulp* long term goal of 2 years? I made the lactation consultant come in as soon as Guy was born to make sure that all was OK. She assured me that all was going well.

6-15-06 Had a seizure and had to go back to hospital. I had HELLP syndrome while pregnant. Guy had to stay at home with grandma and grandpa who gave him formula while I was riding in the ambulance. Since I wasn't planning on being away from him at all, I hadn't pumped any milk yet. (this emergency caused me to pump insane amounts for any future emergencies. Like insane amounts) I wasn't worried about the seizure, but was worried that Guy would get nipple confusion from the emergency bottle. Luckily there were no problems and Guy was nursing away on me that evening.

Ok this is going to get really long if I keep it up. Suffice it say that we have made it through
emergencies
being asked if he was weaned at 3 months
being used as a human pacifier while I cried wondering if I wasn't making
enough milk, because clearly my huge exclusively breast fed giant was starving
being asked if he was weaned at 6 months
pumping for other babies that needed some supplementing
being asked if he was WEANED YET at 9 and again at 12 months
making it through the first year
explaining to the nurse at the ped's office that "YES! Guy is getting whole milk, Breast Milk is WHOLE MILK" when he was 18 months old.
proudly nursing in public (I was so shy/scared about this at first!!)
Responding to or ignoring endless comments about weaning

OK just had to pat myself (and my big boy) on the back. We met our goal!!! Oh, and no still no plans to wean

That's awesome! We might go 2 years!!

Lately, I've been feeling blah though. I am stressed though. He loves his mama milk and I'd hate to tell him no more milky!

Oh mama I have been there!!! I have had a few "spells" where I felt so over it, but wanted to continue it. Looking back I am glad I stuck with it. Extra sleep helps. Yeah extra sleep, that is what the was for.

Re: Two years of bf'ing today!

Awesome job mama! My grandma always asks me if I am going to wean him soon since I am about to start college, but I can always pump and nurse him while I am at home. She doesn't understand why I don't give him the milk I have pumped now in a sippy cup so I can get some time to myself.. Some people just don't understand! I went a month trying to get my son to latch on, you think I am going to give that up now? No thanks.
