What would you make of this??

"I sent them off today, but I couldn't get a tracking number from the PO because they told me that I would have to register it (international stuff) and it was expensive (according to them). So, let me know when you get them!" This was after I paid a extra $6 for shipping to Canada.

Re: What would you make of this??

Well she probably charged you an extra $4 to compensate for the time and effort it took to bring the package to the PO (roll eyes) so I dont think there is anything you can do. Shipping first class international cost the same as shipping within the US, and shipping with insurance is $20+ or something... You can always ask her to refund the $4 but unless she specified that the $4 was to ship it with insurance then she's not obligated to refund...

So the insurance is pretty expensive. Do most mom's not get it unless ordering lots of fluff? There should be a thread for how to buy from U.S. mom's errggg.

Re: What would you make of this??

Usually, when I buy items off of Ebay (from the US), shipping with insurance is usually just a couple of bucks more.
Anyhow, we can usually calculate ourselves the costs of shipping from the US by checking it out on www.USPS.com as long as we have all the info about the package (addresses, weight, height etc). I know some people will charge more for "handling fees", as pp have mentioned (I'm rolling my eyes too...) but I got sick of being overcharged for packages (on top of exchange rate and customs..ugh!)

I know that a couple of US stores will offer free shipping to canadian moms to compensate for the exchange rate:
www.seacraftybaby.com is one of them, as well as monster fluff (love them!) http://hyenacart.com/MonsterFluffStudio/index.php

No. First class doesnt offer insurance, you need to ship a different method to get insurance.

yes first class international, and it can't be tracked to you and the mama are taking a risk it might get lost. us mama's can send it parcel, but it's way more expensive. my understanding from the mama's I deal with, shipping is the same whether to canada or the us, they just have to physically take it to the PO to get a special internation sticker put on the pkg.
