Sore nipples at 6 months pp?

I've been exclusively nursing my daughter for 6.5 months now. We started solids last week, but she doesn't care for them, and doesn't get them every day.

Starting 4-5 days ago, my nipples are really sore when she nurses. It feels like they did when I first started nursing. Not painful, but uncomfortable.

Any idea why this would happen?

could be thrush. could be AF. could be a pregnancy. could be she's teething and her latch has changed.... any of those seem likely??

Wish I knew because the same thing is happening to me at 9.5mo. here. How would I know if it's thrush or not?

Those things, plus it could just be a lazy latch. Do you co sleep and nurse at night? It could also be that she latched on funny and "hurt" you and you are feeling the residual discomfort as you heal.

Re: Sore nipples at 6 months pp?

I'd guess thrush or AF is one her way. I just got my first PP AF a couple weeks ago (my baby will be 1 in a few days) and my nipples were more sensitive than normal. I also got a blister which caused a plugged duct. NEVER had any BF issues until then and now that AF is gone, all is well again.

If you think it's thrush, go get some probiotics.

She got her first tooth about a week ago, I didn't even think of that. I thought it could be a pregnancy, but I tested negative. How would I know if it was thrush or not?

I also want to add that she has a bacterial/yeast diaper rash, I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with it or not.

Re: Sore nipples at 6 months pp?

I developed thrush at 15 months after 12+ months thrush-free. I couldn't believe it. A mama on another board reported that she had the same thing happen and it corresponded with summer and warm weather. Not sure if that is true and why. But, some probiotics and Canadian Nipple Cream cleared it up.

And for anyone else wanting more info on clogged ducts - click here

FWIW when I felt thrush coming on I'd take my grapefruit seed extract tablets - worked like a charm
