Exclamation Will Dawn hurt my washing machine?!

Alright ladies... i am not looking for answers on how well it cleans (i think it cleans FABULOUSLY)... but rather i want to know if anyone has heard of it damaging the washing machine. It's not "intended" for laundry use, and i cannot personally think why it would hurt my machine, but i thought i would ask what anyone else had heard. I really want to just use dawn but worry about any adverse effects to my machine!

If i matters i have a large capacity whirlpool TL

(And if anyone has been washing in just dawn for more than a year... chime in and let me know how that machine is a workin!)

Re: Will Dawn hurt my washing machine?!

I have a super capacity Kenmore TL and have been using Dawn exclusively on my diapers since September or August or around then. No problems thus far. We wash diapers about 2-3 times/week. Like you, I can't think of any reason why it would hurt a washer. Dawn is MUCH more mild than a lot of chemicals made to go in a washer, kwim?

Re: Will Dawn hurt my washing machine?!

I've been using it in ours a few times a month for maybe 9 months or so. I've also wondered the same thing, but we haven't had any problems so far.

You can buy Tide with Dawn in it now, so I'm assuming it's fine for washing machines. BTW, I've heard of others who use Dawn exclusively, but it didn't work for us. We seem to need the detergent to keep the stink away!

Re: Will Dawn hurt my washing machine?!

My washer manual says that any grease cutting formula that is usually found in dish soaps is bad for your machine. Their reason is that it will eventually wash away the needed grease for the agitator. I don't have any proof backing that up though. Maybe it happened once and they lost money so they put that in their manual to save their butt, who knows.

I've heard that too from the guy who came and fixed our washer!! And, apparently once a month or so, you should buy a small bottle of Tide or Cheer because they both contain lubricants for your machine, and it will re-lube it up for you So, we do it, and no more washer problems!!

Hmmm very interesting. Makes some sense, we got our washer used so no manual to consult. Anyone have a appliance repair DH to ask?

Re: Will Dawn hurt my washing machine?!

I have been using Dawn for over a year in my FL without a problem. I do my normal wash inbetween with "normal" detergent and have not had any problems.
