He bit through his tounge!

Liam is climbing everywhere all the time and I cannot seem to impress upon him that this is dangerous business! Yesterday he climbed onto the kitchen chair and slipped. He bit all the way through his tounge and it bled and bled and bled. So, I thought since it quit bleeding, was still attached quite securely and it didn't seem to bother him that it would be fine. He is nursing fine and eating, chatting and all that, but today it looks a little swollen and I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but I'm taking him to the doctor to have it looked at. Do you think I'm wasting the $30 co-pay? Would you take your child in under similar circumstances? I guess sometimes I'm paranoid that I'm being over-cautious, kwim? I just was thikning that they always say how dirty human mouths are, so thought maybe he might need antibiotics while it heals.

Follow your instinct. That is a tough one. I would just keep my eye on him. The tongue is the fastest healing part of the body. If he can eat and breathe fine, I would just keep a close eye on it.

Woweeee! I'm glad he seems to be doing okay. I would probably take him to the doc, but if he's happy and not complaining about it hurting, then you might just want to watch it for the rest of the day.
