Can homemade bread dough be frozen?

Kind of a boob when it comes to cooking. Can I freeze bread dough to save for later?

Not sure....but I know that I freeze pizza dough on a regular basis and its fine. If nobody answers, you should try it out and let us all know what happens

You can freeze the bread dough, but i'm not sure how the Yeast would do?

I froze my bread dough and it didn't rise well at all, but I mill my own wheat..so my flour is denser. If you're using white flour or any flour you're buying from the store...it may work.

Re: Can homemade bread dough be frozen?

Yup. My recipes calls for 2 risings. So I let the dough rise once, punch down, shape, and freeze. Rather than shaping, rising again, and baking. Just let the dough thaw and rise at the same time. Although I only do this with rolls as my kids think rolls are the bees knees and don't care so much about bread slices. Silly kids.

I also have cinnamon rolls in my freezer - Alton Brown's overnight cinnamon roll recipe as a matter of fact. Rather than letting it rise the second time and baking, I freeze in the middle. And the second rising is done in the oven above a pan of boiled water, so it thaws/rises pretty darn quickly.

Both recipes use yeast, both turn out just fine when I thaw and bake. So then I can do double batches of 'em when I'm already sinking time into the venture, and have yumminess ready for later.

If it's a yeast bread, just shape your regular bread dough into rolls and freeze. No biggie. My recipe's just my mom's bread recipe that she got from Consumer Reports back in the early 80's, nothing special. Then instead of baking for like 30-45 minutes or whatever, you just bake for 15-20 minutes if you make rolls about the size of golf balls (before they rise the second time).
