Question when do they cut from 2 naps to 1?

My guy just turned one and he is still taking 2 naps a day...but now we are having soooo many night waking experiences that i am wondering if he is getting too much sleep in the day? When did your LO go from 2 naps down to one? And how did that transition work for you? thanks!

Re: when do they cut from 2 naps to 1?

Evan is almost 17 months and he just dropped his morning nap within the past week. There have been a couple of days where he was wanted to nap in the morning and I have let him, but for the most part he's just napping after lunch. The transistion has gone well. He just stopped acting tired in the morning and I went with it. I can't remember when Logan dropped his morning nap but I'm assuming it was around the same age if not a little older.

With my boys I wouldn't expect their naps during the day to affect waking at night. I would assume it's teething or something of that nature.

David was about 15-16 months when he went down to one nap. I let him self wean for that. Occasionally he'll take a cat nap later in the afternoon around 4ish...but not very often. Usually he naps from about 11am until 1-2pm

My LO's daycare stops morning naps at 13 months and switches them to longer afternoon naps in preparation for the toddler room that they move to at 14 month.

Re: when do they cut from 2 naps to 1?

My oldest dropped her morning nap probably around 6-7 months. My son didn't drop his morning nap until he was somewhere around a year -- a little older, I think. And my youngest is 16 months and while she doesn't routinely take 2 naps, it's not unusual for her to do so.

Re: when do they cut from 2 naps to 1?

DD just dropped to one nap a day a couple weeks ago. It coincided with the time that she started sleeping through the night. She is 15 months old tomorrow.

DD dropped to one nap a little after a year old. Recently her two hour nap has gone down to one hour and I'm . Sometimes she wakes up tired. Ugh!

Re: when do they cut from 2 naps to 1?

It all depends on the child. Some babies go to one nap well before a year, some around a year and some till not much later. My guy is pretty much a year and still takes 2 naps a day. there have been times when i think he is ready to go to one then he starts taking his 2 again.

how long is he sleeping for each nap? Sometimes they sleep to much on one nap and then not enough on the other and get overtired which can cause night waking. So if he is sleeping more than 1 to 1.5 hours at each nap wake him up after no more than 1.5 hours and see if that might help you still get 2 naps but sleeping at night also!

Hope it helps!

14 months here. Frustrating time! You might check the book Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. It helped us make the transition.

Ds is 14 months and he still takes 2 naps a day...if he doesn't he is unbearably grumpy. Total he naps for 2-3 hours a day but he still sleeps 12-13 hours at night too
