2 month vax help Update on first post
my dd gets her vax tomorrow at her 2 month check up and im not sure i want to do them all!!! the dr knows i want to delay/selectively vax and keeps saying we will talk about it and we dont...and he wont return my calls(i need to know which ones they give so i can research...)can some one tell this ftm which vaxes to expect an opinions on them??Update: i have postponed dds appt bc i got in a heated arguement with the nurse today about not vaxing yet...at one point we had talked to the dr about piercing dds ears at 2 months(not trying to start a debate im hispanic and every girl in my family has had theirs done at 2 months or sooner) the nurse told me that vaxes dont cause ANY reactions-which i know is false bc i nanny an autistic boy who was fine until 24hrs after his mmr-i didnt argue but just stated that we would be ok w/tetsanus and pertussis but didnt want the others and she had 2 others nurses yelling at me about not fully vaxing...then she started bringing up the ear piercing and saying they wouldnt do it w/o vaxing(which is fine bc my mom did mine and i did my 2nd holes and would have no prob doing dds..) i jusr dont think they have the right to ?? my personal decisions..after all i am paying them ,right??

Re: 2 month vax help
Well, I gave into pressure and let DS get all his 2 month shots. He did just fine. Slept a little better that night, but that was the only difference in him. He hasn't had any since. He'll ger his four month shots at 7 or 8 months old, I think.
If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't do any shots before 6 months. But that's just me. I know you'll get the HepB, DTaP... and... I don't remember the other. DS only got 3 shots, but 2 were combinded, I think. Maybe the Prevnar? I can't remember now.

Re: 2 month vax help
The most common at 2 months are HepB, DTaP, Prevnar, and it is either Polio or HIB, I can't remember which. HepB is an STD, and Prevnar is to prevent ear infections (it has been highly ineffective, the health dept in our area refuses to give it at all because of adverse reactions). DTaP has some of the highest incidences of adverse events and the lowest efficacy rates.
We don't vax at all, my first ds had a very bad reaction to his vaxes and since then I have done some research and no longer agree with the theory behind vaxing. But if I were going to vax I would wait until my child was at least 2yrs old. Japan started doing this several years ago and since then their incidence of SIDS has plummeted. Plus I feel like it gives you a better idea of who your child is and what your child's temperament is. Just something to measure against should your child have a neurological reaction.

Re: 2 month vax help
If you're comfortable waiting, my recommendation would be just don't bother getting any vaxes at 2 months. If you're not, definitely just get one, or 2 at the most. There are several on the 2 month schedule I believe. Don't bother with HepB - as Shannon said it's for STDs. I wouldn't do Prevnar at all either. So you could rule those 2 out (just giving my opinions here!).
I think there would be the option for DTaP and Polio. Those were tough ones for me. We did both - I think we did them at 4 months and 6 or something...I can't remember. Initially we did DTaP b/c the Doc felt strongly as there was a Pertussis outbreak in our area at that time. We did Polio b/c we travel overseas and some areas are seeing polio. We have stopped doing them both. No reactions or anything, I just don't like vaxes. You could invest in Stephanie Cave's book "What your ped doesn't tell you about vaccinations". She gives fairly objective info on the vaxes. She also gives 'her' recommendations...although you have to dig around a bit in the book to find them. She is a ped, so it seems an informed perspective. I don't think she recommends Prevnar.

Re: 2 month vax help
I agree with the recommendations to wait, you cant un-vax a kid, but can always get the vax later. DD had all shots up to a year and then we decided to delay and with our next we will delay them quite a bit. I'm reading Cave's book right now, its scary stuff to think about.

Re: 2 month vax help
Most doctors get a pretty good kickback for giving those shots. If you are concerned I would just not get them tomorrow. When they ask why not tell them because you called to asked which ones he was getting and they didnt get back to you and you want to learn more about them first. I cant believe people actually inject things into their babies without knowing what is in them at least! To me that is like closing you eyes and just grabbing something out of the fridge and feeding it to your baby.

Re: 2 month vax help Update on first post
You are right, they don't have any right to question you. But you will run into many in the medical field who have a bit of a god complex and they hate it when people question them. My advice is to look for another ped who will respect you. Congrats on standing up for yourself and your dd.
