Can you hire your own personal bf consultant?

I had an awful experience w/my lactation consultant from the hospital. I was wondering if when I have my next baby if I could hirea private one to come to my hospital right after the baby is born and come to my house (more than just once) If so about how much do they run?

Maybe a post partum doula? I don't know if they do bf support though.

Sorry you had a bad experience! I would highly recommend checking out your area La Leche League group. They have meetings you can attend while pregnant and you can bring baby after he/she is born and ask any questions and get tons of help. They also will come to the hospital and help you and the leaders give out their phone numbers so you can call with questions any time. I really love my LLL group!

Yeah, I was thinking a pp doula or lll leader. Good luck! My hospital didn't even have bfing consultants.

I agree with the local LL group...I believe they are free...and I have heard nothing but wonderful things about them!

actually you can easily higher your own private lactation consultant! My girlfriends and I have all used the same one...
Go to this site and see if there is one in your area! Mine didn't come to the hospital but would have... prices vary! Good luck and it'll be worth it.

My doula was also a lactation consultant (I believe her fee was $20 an hour?). I'd check your local LLL also.

Well I'm going to check out that site. I don't want someone who is going to make me feel guilty for not being able to bf dd #1 and I don't want to feel guilty about having an epidural either. Thanks for the advice. Please keep it coming.

Our hospital doesnt have a LC on staff here....I just called up the LC and she came and did a home visit the same day we got home from the hospital. Worked nicely.

Downside? I had to pay her (her rates are 65$ an hour, one hr minimum) and I have to bill my insurance and hope that insurance reimbursts me. But, I don tknow if I am going to bother I will pay 65$ and have a sucessful BFing relationship over, cracks, mastitis, possible quitting and formula (yes even if you have BF one doesnt mean you will be sucessful with another. I came SO close to quitting at 1month PP with my DD. Even though I had a sucessful relationship with my oldest)
