Have you tasted your breastmilk?

So...another thread came up about breastmilk tasting salty, and one mama mentioned that she'd never tasted hers. So I got to wondering...I've tasted mine, but it somehow seems weird to do it. I'm sure it has something to do with our societies' crazy issues with breasts...

What about all you other mamas?

when i was nursing both kids i tasted mine and it was sweet like melon juice. i think it's flavor would depend on what you eat in your own diet cause mine was always sweet.

Re: Have you tasted your breastmilk?

I've tasted mine, and I've eaten oatmeal that I prepared for ds using breastmilk. If it's good enough for my children, I don't know why it would be so wierd for me to taste it.

Re: Have you tasted your breastmilk?

I answered occationally, but I DO see why it would seem weird to people. It's the only fluid that comes out of our body that is "ok" for someone to consume. It's still "weird" to a lot of people that BABIES drink it. LOL

Now, I've never had a cup of it, but I've wound up with it on my fingers for one reason or another and lick it off just like if it were chocolate sauce!

Mine is always VERY sweet too. If it's diet, then it must be the carbs and grains in me... I'm not a sweets/sugar person.

I did with Tabitha, but I haven't had any reason to yet with Duncan. However, I did wonder if it would be ok for me to use it in my cereal, since I can't have dairy!

Re: Have you tasted your breastmilk?

I found it very helpful to know what my breast milk normally tasted like, and should taste like, so that if my son stopped nursing, I could try it and see if it tasted gross (which occasionally was the case!). I had mastitis several times and it made the milk taste NASTY.

Yep I've tasted it, as well as everything else that my daughter consumes (yes that includes the organic babyfood that we used to use) She now eats normal table food and still nurses about 6 times a day.

Re: Have you tasted your breastmilk?

I have once..........I was giving it to my dd (4 who isnt nursing) because she was sick and I figured it would be better than reg. milk......she said it tasted wierd, so of course I had to try it! But it did seem strange, not sure why.....maybe because that is what society has made it be???? Either way I couldnt convince dd to drink it so I put a bit of chocolate in it so it wouldnt go to waste and she downed it!! hehehe Chocolate boob milk, does it get better than that????
