Anybody use a D.O. instead of a regular M.D.?
We've decided not to vax anymore and my ped. is being very difficult about it, so we are thinking about switching to a D.O. Does anybody else see a D.O.? There aren't many peds around here and they are all very pro vax and are way too rx happy for me. I want a more natural approach I guess. Should I maybe just try a family practice? I really like those well baby visits, just to put my mind at ease, but I'm sure I don't want to vax . I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

Re: Anybody use a D.O. instead of a regular M.D.?
Well I have to say that it all depends on the doc. I think in general a DO would be more natural and whole body, mind spirit approach because that is what they teach. But do keep a look out too with them as there was a whole generation of "we didnt make it into MD school, so we will just go to DO school and practice how we please" I think more of the younger ones coming out now are not of that mindset but its all personality. My first OB I selected for being a DO and he was awful, but thats a whole other story I dont wish to go into, ugh.
That being said I see a DO everyday, he's my dh and very supportive of our ap parenting lifestyle. Basically you need to find a doc for your child and family that either believes as you do or else respects you as the parent to be in charge of your childs help with them there for back-up. You are there voice at this age. heidi

We have one in our church we plan on seeing. He came highly recommended by my best friend who's in the medical profession so I am looking foward to visiting with him on a professional/medical level.
Oh, he's also an MD so he takes insurance

I wouldn't get caught up in the letters. Our family practice has one of each. I love the MD, hate the DO.
Our physician is wonderful...good listener, open-minded, honest, takes time with us (our last visit was almost an hour long). I'd focus on the finding the right person with the qualities you are looking for...no matter where they went to school. Good luck!
