Bye, bye... :(

...milk.

Yes, my milk is drying up because I need to wean (due to meds I have really needed but refused due to nursing). It's so sad. I am a little emotional. My son is ALMOST a year (will be a year on August, 9th) and I would have been nursing for a year. I will still be doing one feeding a night at that time but do need to stop a few days after that.

so..... as I was feeding him tonight, he was pulling and moving about trying to get milk. I said, "Bye bye milk and he started to sign 'bye, bye'. His "bye, bye's" look like "milk" but given the context, he was really saying bye bye. He actually waved at my boob. I actually LOST it. I started to cry.

Oh my

Hey, we did it though. We made it one year. My son has rarely been sick and I know I gave him what he needed.

I do feel this whole weaning thing is SO very unnatural and fight it everyday. My son fights it, too.

It's so hard

Have you checked that the meds are REALLY unsafe to take while BFing? Most meds are fine and many DRs do not know what is safe and not.

Just saying!

Sorry about that

Oh..your hugs made me cry.

Seriously

does weaning make you extra emotional, hormonally speaking??

Yes, taking the medication is too risky. Even on Dr. Hale's website, he said that it is usually not recommended due to lack of studies. I have read that approximately 22% of the medication is passed to the baby via breastmilk. There is a high correlation of Steven Johnsons syndrome with children and infants on this particular med. I am on a very low starter dose right now and feed my Brian when it is almost out of my system. I have two weeks until I go to the next dose and at that time, the risk to my child outweighs the benefit.

Most of the information that I have tried to find seems at least two years old including Dr. Hales.

I have tried a few other meds in the past but they don't work like this one does Most meds seem fine but this one does not. Thanks for thinking of that, though.

I'm so sorry! I thought I would be more than ready to end it by a year, but I'm so not! I can't imagine being forced to by something that was necessary to keep me healthy! It will be okay, mama! You've done so good for him already!
