I washed pockets (FB's, GAD, WAHMS, PC), MF inserts, prefolds, and a couple of fitteds. I use a shallow 1/4 c. for a medium-large load. I have a Maytag Atlantis top loader, it's at least 5 years old. I don't think we have terribly hard water, but who knows.

Re: Green & Thrifty...Making Your Own Detergent!

Simple Green also contains Butyl Cellusolve, a nasty chemical found in cleaners like 409 and Windex. It also can cause burn rashes for some kids. We must avoid it as it contains some corn derived ingredients that my son is allergic to.

And the olive oil soap that was recommended to me was NOT Dr. Bronner's. It is a green-gray looking block made in france.

Re: Green & Thrifty...Making Your Own Detergent!

Anyone else want to post their diaper/wash info?

I'd love to hear if anyone uses this with hemp...especially considering the earlier post about hemp "hanging on" to the borax!

Re: Green & Thrifty...Making Your Own Detergent!

I just HAD to come on here and show this to you all!

I was so excited to head out tonight and get all the ingrediants to try this out. I'm not brave enough yet to use it on the diapers, but I figure using it on our clothing is one step in the right direction. Anyway...I decided to wash a "CLEAN" load of laundry. I just had this load of darks in the dryer. I wanted to see how much more would come out when I used this recipe for detergent. What's that phrase? A picture's worth a thousand words?
