how do you cut PUL?
I know how stupid a question this seems but I really don't want to use pins to secure the pattern to the PUL for cutting. The pattern is halved so it goes on a fold up the rise. I think if I use pins (that's how I normally cut fabric for a pattern) it would mess up the waterproofing, yes?
Any suggestions? ![]() Advertisement |

Re: how do you cut PUL?
how about a water soluble/vanishing ink fabric pen? You can trace the pattern on the the PUL and then just cut on the line.
Would that work for you?

Re: how do you cut PUL?
You can trace the pattern onto cardboard (old cereal boxes work well) and cut it out. Then use it as a template to trace around onto your PUL with a water-soluble pen.
I've also used pattern weights. |

Re: how do you cut PUL?
I use a reg pen and draw on the shiny side. I either cut with a rotary cutter or scissors. I use a pen since I can strategiclly place my patterns so that I get the most out of the fabric.

I use canned veggies as fabric weights, works great!

Re: how do you cut PUL?
I like tuna cans for pattern weights, but I use refried beans in smaller curves (the cans, I mean). I cut my PUL with a 28mm rotary blade. It's faster and totally handles the tight curves.
You can fold the PUL and put the pattern down, weight it and cut. It totally works. I'm too impatient to bother with marking pens. I want to get on to the sewing part of things! |

Re: how do you cut PUL?
if you use a rotary blade, do you have to have the board underneath it or can you just put it on the countertop? seems easier than scissors but I don't want to have to spend a lot of money on the blade and the board...

Re: how do you cut PUL?
Dh bought me some "Weights" they are actually tea light holders. They are metal triangles that weigh a ton. He got me 4 and they work really well. I also do the disappearing ink pen on the non slippery side.
