Re: After 1yr when did you stop?

I got pregnant when DS#1 was 16 months old. He continued to nurse until he was 19.5 months (I was going to let him tandem nurse, but he weaned himself).

I plan to do child-led weaning with DS #2......

Re: After 1yr when did you stop?

I'm not that far in the process yet so I didn't vote because I don't have a clue. She is 9 months old now though and is completely reliant on the breast yet, she doesn't get any fluids elsewhere and only eats a tiny bit of solids yet ("practice" solids as I like to call them) I'm going to let her self wean. She is a restless nurser but she isn't into taking fluids from a sippy or other form, not that I'm pushing it, So I really haven't got a clue when she'll self wean. I'd like to go at least 2 years though! Longer would be awesome, but in my opinion it depends on what she wants!

DD self weaned at 19months. I am pretty sure she only weaned because I was 5 months preggo.

I plan on letting DS self wean also. After going through what I did with my oldest DS (I thought a nursing strike was him self weaning) I dont want to do that again. Its much easier for them to just gradually wean on their own. I was never engorged or anything with DD. It was nice.

I can't really vote yet either. DD is 17 months and still nurses quite a bit.

I am hoping to have her weaned before 2 but the way that she nurses, I'm not sure that it will be easy!

Re: After 1yr when did you stop?

DS is 17 months old and I am 19 weeks pregnant. I was hoping he would be able to self wean or tandem nurse, but my milk supply just went out yesterday. It was getting low despite his continued nursing on schedule. And yesterday - nothing! Nada! Poor kiddo was soooo frustrated. This wasn't what we expected, but I think today it's pretty much cold turkey weaning.

I had a friend who nursed through a pregnancy. At one point she lost her milk like you did and her son would still try now and then or just nurse (suckle) for comfort. Then he just stopped nursing all together. After she had the baby he went right back to it though.
