Question Potty learning/ training?

How do I know its time to start paying attention to what he does? Well, that doesn't sound right, I always pay attention, I guess how do I know he's "serious"?

The other night DH was putting him in his diaper for bedtime and he said "potty" DH just assumed it was because he was changing his diaper, not more than 5 seconds later he was peeing in the diaper.

He always tells us when he poops (occasionally before but not often) and this morning I was wandering about in my undies (it was hot!) and he pointed to my underpants and said "diaper". I told him it was mamas underpants not a diaper and he said "me pants". So I don't know if he wants underpants of his own or what?

Also if it were underpants training time what underpants would I get him? Just a cheapo wallyworld pack? I get the distinct idea hes not a training pants kinda kid...he has always been "all or nothing" and I doubt that will change with potty stuff.
