Alimentum I think I love you!

Mamas.. I just have to share! John-Marc has been struggling with some very painful silent reflux (he throws up ocasionally but usually it's silent which is really painful!) since he was about 2 weeks old. He's 5 1/2 weeks now. I read an awesome link from the infant reflux site about milk protein intolerance, what it is, what it does to the baby's system and how it's almost always related to reflux...
We've tried a TON of formulas including nutramegin which I must say I didn't give it time, I cold turkey tried to switch (that's what the ped suggested) and he screamed cause he hated the taste, so after 4 feedings I quit)... but the enfamil's we did do he was really gassy on (more than his already gassy self). He had all the classic reflux symptoms.. anyway, it's been since Sunday night of 2oz good start 1 oz alimentum and then starting yesterday 2 oz alimentum and 1 oz good start... and he's like a different baby.
He had a rash all over his face and forehead that we assumed was baby acne.. well it's almost COMPLETELY gone, he's so much happier, his severe constipation (tiny hard pellets) was 2 super soft poops yesterday (Sorry TMI, it's just hard to see a newborn struggle to poop).... and his arching, heartburn, grunting is so much better. He's still refluxing some but he's SO much better already, and that's with still getting regular milk based formula partly... I can't imagine how much better he'll be in the next 3 weeks (that's how long it can take to really work).
I just had to share and say thank you to the mamas that kept replying to my posts about all our struggles... I really appreciate it.
Anyway, if anyone has tips on how to get him to like/take all alimentum please do share cause the times I've tried straight alimentum he cried and hated it.
Anyway, he's gaining so well now and here he is TODAY around 8lbs something.
THanks mamas!!

I might have missed it, but is your babe on reflux medicine. That really helped my guy.

Also - my insurance covered the cost of the alimentum because it was in the doctor's notes. - You have to love unions - great health insurance.

Re: Alimentum I think I love you!

fish~ Yes we started zantac 0.5 ml once daily on Firday. We'll see if that helps, I'm doubtful from what I've heard and my oldest wasn't helped by it.
We have WIC so the alimentum will be covered thank goodness. ;O)

Thanks mamas!

Daniel wasn't helped by the first medicine Zantac(which is common). They had to put him on the stronger stuff - which worked really well. I can't remember what the second one was (like a prilosec kind). Apparently it is really common and the pedi. didn't even blink to switch us over to the other. Thank goodness she did.

Fish~ I'm thinking they will have to put John-Marc on prilosec or something like that too.... I've heard though they undermedicate with the prilosec etc... so I wonder about that... also did you have to wait to feed your ds after giving him the prilosec? That would be really hard here as he sleeps and then wakes to eat starving...

I called my sister (because I couldn't remember) - she is a pediatrician. She went into this long story (that I couldn't quite follow about the first medicine blocks the hormones that produce the acid, and the second one actually shuts the pump down that makes the acids), but basically the prilosec (she used the medical name) is usually given once a day (sometimes twice) and it doesn't need to have any wait time for feeding.
