Re: baby wearers - what do you do in the winter?

I put the baby carrier on (either sling or mai tai), put baby in it, then put my coat over the both of us. Both of us snug as bugs in a rug.

Re: baby wearers - what do you do in the winter?

Michigan here BRRR
For errands etc I'm not a coat person. I'd rather freeze for a few minutes. So I wear a fleece or a sweater and live life as usual. For temps above freezing or trips outside of 15-30 minutes I dress baby in a fleece snowsuit thing and again I am most likely coatless.
For sledding with the big kids or whatever I bundle baby in the fleece again with 2 pairs of an older childs socks going up the gegs. A regular snowsuit prevents MY warmth getting through which makes for a colder baby IMO. I use a good hat and double socks on the arms, just like the legs. Then I put the carrier on under my coat. For a sling or front carry this works just fine. For a back carry I have a THICK wool poncho from a resale with a zipper in front, I just spin it backwards and leave it unzipped and the baby peeks out perfectly.

I have a child size fleece no-sew knotty blanket that I may cut a hole in for this year.

I rarely need a coat. I usually put baby on and then zip up a jacket over both of us.

Re: baby wearers - what do you do in the winter?

Here it gets COLLLLD, in fact it SNOWED last night. I bought a BW fleece poncho last year and hope I have the guts to wear it this year, LOl

But usually I put her on front under my coat ina MT, that might not work this year cause she is much bigger. So I am going to alter a coat I have into a BW coat so I can wear her on my back, ORRRR just wear her on my back over my coat, but under the poncho...YES it does get that cold here! LOL

I'm in MOnterey, CA. It gets chilly but doesn't snow or anything. I do have a fleece jacket. My Mom is going to try to make some slings from a ring sling pattern I found, so I'll ask her to make one really long, so I can adjust the size over a jacket or sweater.

thanks!
Monterey isn't too bad in winter, but a little colder than up here in Sac Valley. Do you wear wraps at all? Sometime I don't even need a jacket if I'm wearing a baby. I just bring my fleece wrap and wear a long sleeved shirt. If I'm outside for more than a few minutes though, I wear a jacket. I love fleece cause it's light, it's warm, and it's stretchy - all perfect for wearing with a baby on.

Re: baby wearers - what do you do in the winter?

Last winter I zipped my jacket up over ds in a wrap. Not sure what I'm gonna do this winter - he's HUGE.
For the time being I bought one of those shawl wraps. It was perfect to wrap around the two of us with ds in the mei tai.

i've done that in the past, too! DH's coat is the only one that will fit over both of us!

i have seen special jackets for babywearing. they have a removable panel that you put in when you're wearing the baby, so you can also wear it as a regular jacket, without the panel

Re: baby wearers - what do you do in the winter?

this was me last winter, not a perfect solution, I would throw on my coat and just leave it open, I always would tuck her little feet in the wrap around me.

now that she is bigger i will have to learn to wrap over my coat with her in a big old coat! yea that was before i cut off all of my hair and lost my baby weight so dont mind that!)
