Sewing machine problems

I have a Viking sewing machine. Until today, I've had no issues with it. It jammed, so I changed the needle (usually the culprit for me). It was still jamming, so I looked more into it. It appears that the bobbin shuttle isn't moving properly out of the way to release the upper thread. I pulled everything out, vacuumed, oiled per manufacturer instructions, etc. Its still not working properly. What else should I try? I would really prefer not to have to take it in for service if I can help it.

Your bobbin casing could be damaged. If you took the bobbin casing out and cleaned it & all around it, put it back in, re-threaded the entire machine, and it still isn't working, you probably will have to take it in. . This happens to me when I've damaged a bobbin casing by a needle jamming or pin getting broken off and bent. I've spent over $100, just in bobbin casing repairs/replacements!

Re: Sewing machine problems

Can you take some photos(or a video) so we can see if anything looks off.

Is it a drop in or vertical bobbin? Drop in cases have a high rate of getting damaged and needing to be replaced. If everything else seems OK but it is still not working it is likely the timing.

Have you looked everywhere to look for lint or rogue thread?

Its a vertical bobbin. Everything looks perfect. I've maintained my own sewing machines forever. I've only had to take a machine in for service twice.

It was sewing fine for several minutes. I went to start a new line and suddenly it just wasn't working properly.
