Re: Have you ever attended the birth of a child, not your own?

I was an only child for 15 years. With the birth of my older little sister, I missed it because she was born the day after my 15th birthday, and I was having a sleepover and all, and my mom wouldn't let me leave my friends to go see my little sister. I don't even think I ended up seeing her until she was a month or so old.

Now with my mom's daughter, I was the one holding her leg. (My step-dad had the other one). I was 18. My mom insisted that I be there as a way to "disuade" me from having children or something. The only thing it did was make me really sad for women who just sit there and can't feel anything. My step-dad and I had to watch the monitor and tell her when she was having a contraction so that she could push. It was really sad.

And of course, my mom ended up being there for DS' birth (even though I told the nurses not to let her in). She walked in and I was sitting on the birthing ball. The first thing she did was laugh and say "So I see you still think you're going natural." Luckily I turned all of her negativity into a positive thing and let that motivate me. I was not about to let my mom be right! lol So even though I was induced, I made it through with no meds and an only 5 hour labor.

Re: Have you ever attended the birth of a child, not your own?

I was present at the birth of my former best friend's first child. It was an amazing experience! About a year later, I returned the favor for the birth of our first little girl---my mom and DH were there for her birth also. In June of this year, during the birth of my second little girl, it was just DH and I.

I have not yet, but within 3 weeks I will. My sister has asked me to be in the room when she delivers her son. She was also in the room when I delivered my oldest DD.

I was there when my sister had her second. It was very cool and so emotional. It felt good to hear her say that she was glad I was there and it was awesome being able to support her in a way only another mom could understand. Just thinking about it make me teary eyed.

Re: Have you ever attended the birth of a child, not your own?

i haven't. i'm not sure if the opportunity would ever present itself. and i'm not exactly sure that i would feel comfortable being there or not. it was just dh & i, plus l&d nurse and m/w when i had dd, and i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have wanted anyone else there. of course i had a totally immodest birth experience (at my own hand), so that might have been part of it.

yes, my best friend. and it was an incredible experience. though now that i have actually gone through labor myself i think i will be better able to give support should the opportunity present itself again. my sister and friend are ttc right now, so fingers crossed that i will get the opportunity again next summer!!

I've never been able to. I was present with a friend and she ended up having an emergency C. I had planned to be there for my SIL - about 3 hours away, but she went 6 wks early and I didn't make it in time
