Gestational Diabetes woes.......

So, I went in for a blood draw today, and the Doc comes in and tells me I have diabetes now... Anyone else dealing with this?

Re: Gestational Diabetes woes.......

I'm sorry. This is now my 3rd pregnancy with GD. You will get through it and your baby will do great. From what I've read, GD is primarily a predictor of a mothers likelihood of contracting true diabetes later and is not a big risk to the baby. That said, true diabetes during pregnancy does carry more risks. But both GD and diabetic moms can have healthy babies and normal births with controlled blood sugars. I have been able to control my GD with just diet modifications my previous two pregnancies and I hope the same for you as well. (((Hugs)))

Re: Gestational Diabetes woes.......

My older sister had this, she is very overweight so she kind of knew she was at risk. She had to test he blood all day and controlled it with diet. No medicine needed.

Don't worry mama Your baby will be just fine.
I have 5 kids with #3 I got GD at the normal "time" you would get it during pregnancy.
With #4 I got it right when I found out I was prego. It never went away. But I am totally controlled by diet.

When I found out I was also freaking out. But it's really not a big deal (eating wise), I actually felt alot better!

They monitor closely durning pregnancy and L&D, they test the baby a few times after birth to be sure there is no drop in sugar. The baby will not have diabetes because of it.

If you planned birthing center birth, you won't be able to do that now though, because you have to be monitored.

Good Luck mama, big hugs. You'll be okay

PM me if you have any questions

Hello! My name is Sarah and I am new to this website! I do not have GD but I have type 1 diabetes. I found out last year after I had a miscarriage. I don't know much about GD but I wanted to offer you a link to a message board that I visit a lot. It is called Diabetic Mommy and it is full of women with diabetes!! Of all types! So I'm sure you'd find a lot of support there! The website is www.diabeticmommy.com. I hope that you are doing well! =)

Sarah.

Re: Gestational Diabetes woes.......

I am going through this also Momma. I go next Tuesday to find out if I go on insulin or not. My numbers have been under 200 (normal diabetic numbers are over that) but, they have been over 130 (GD numbers are over that) so, we will see. Lots of my sugar numbers have been UNDER 100 so, that is a great sign!

Hang in there. I've been stressed also but we can do it! Be strong!

I am borderline Mama with a 75% chance of developing it by the time I hit 24 weeks. I understand what you are through...

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow, For children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow. So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep. I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.
