Re: Got my AFP results in...

i would do the amnio if think it will put your mind at ease. going the rest of your preg stressed that your babe will have downs would not be a good situation for you or the baby.

i hope you get your appt very soon.

Re: Got my AFP results in...

I so can understand how stressful that can be. I had a child born with down syndrome when I was 21. And I went through all the test, but opted not to get the amnio because of the risks of miscarriage. They will most likely give you a level 2 u/s at your appt. I get a level 2 u/s on Aug 21, just as precaution due to already have one child with DS.

Re: Got my AFP results in...

My midwife told me that you cant really say for sure if the baby doesnt have a disability unless you do an amniocentisis. She said there are many disabilities that test doesnt detect, and even if it does "detect" something, there is no way to say how accurate it is. I wouldnt worry about it, there are so many different factors involved that vary. Such as "normal" hormone levels of your body and your baby's body may not be exactly what they say should be "normal" so it turns out as higher risk.

Hang in there and try not to worry about it.
