pumping issues

So i know i'm not drying up, because ds chokes everytime he feeds; but when i go to pump i only get 1 to 2oz at every session. Also it used to be 3oz at the beginning. I am having to go back to work on the 2nd and fear that i won't have enough in my frozen supply for him to take.

What can i do to do increase supply when i'm pumping?

Re: pumping issues

Pump in the morning (when most women's supply is highest). Only nurse from one side so you can pump the other side. Massage the BB you are pumping while it's pumping- this would nearly double the amount I could get out!

Re: pumping issues

I am having the same problem! Sorry to hijack your post but I would love to build up a good reserve but can't seem to pump out more then a ounce or less
how are the nipple cups supposed to fit? I also find I have to haunch forward for the milk to flow down into the bottles or really squish it into my breast because my nipples face more upward. Could positioning be hindering what I am able to pump?

Re: pumping issues

call medela to make sure that your nipple is fitting into the shield properly. Also, check your white membranes, shields, arms, and hoses for any sign of wear. Replacing those might help to get a petter suction, and thus, better letdown into the pump.

Re: pumping issues

Alright ladies... just my little two cents worth... I cannot get more than an ounce from pumping without baby around. I think my breast are holding out for the real thing or something. If I nurse and pump at the same time... I get great results (or even get my 6 wk old to nurse for just a minute, then pump) Definately in the morning, and I even pump in the middle of the night if I am fuller than normal. (DH understands luckily!)

Good luck!
