Anyone use Accountable Kids? **3 week update**

I've been reading up on this program and really like the principles, but I'm just not sure if it will work for my almost 5yr old. I would be getting 2 kits, but will have to start out slower for my 2.5yr old.

If you use it, what do you like about it? and What do you not like about it?

TIA
Erica

That looks awesome mama! Let us know if you go for it...would be something great to ask my mom to get me for Christmas, she is already buying me a bunch of parenting books for my "spirited-strong willed-independant" 3yo.

Re: Anyone use Accountable Kids?

I use accountable kids for all 4 of my kids.

My oldest is 8 and my youngest is 2. My 8 yr old and 4 yr old are do really well with it. My 5 yr old who I really bought it for still tries to fight me, but she is getting better as she doesn't like being left out of the rewards or date nights.

If you follow it correctly it works wonders!!!

My 2 yr old obviously doesn't know it all, but he does look at his cards and know that they need to brush his teeth and get dressed, eat breakfast and such. He follows his brothers to his board so he wants to participate.

Re: Anyone use Accountable Kids?

Just wanted to post an update. We got the program, and are starting our 3rd week. It is a great program (at least for our house) Things are so much calmer, the kids have very clear routine, and DH and I have a clear discipline plan.

The things that I like about it so far as compared to reward type things we had tried is that this puts things into the kids hands. In the past we gave the girls ball to fill a container, then the got to pick a play date, but after a week DH and I would forget her or there to give a ball, then a couple days would pass and so on....

With this throughout the day we still have to prompt them to check their chart, but they know what is expected and can do all the things we have listed so far. They are motivated to check their boards because they earn tickets, and only with those tickets are they entitled to watch tv, play on the computer, or to do crafts (they can always color and stuff, but we save the messy stuff for earned time). As well as tickets also serve as punishment, we have basic house rules, no hitting, kicking, biting, scratch, talking back, through this program we have added a few more like do not ask the other parent for something that you've already received an answer. (our 5yr old is very big on asking 1 of us something and getting told no and then asking the other, or repeatedly asking) I read the book, then we discussed things as a family (as best a 5 and 2.5 yr old will) then we spent a couple days talking about "when your board goes up and you do that you will loose a ticket" Oh and the most important thing that I have learned (dh is happy) is that there is only 1 chance. We only have to say keep it up and you'll loose a ticket and more times than not they will. If they don't have a ticket then they get time outs but we have now gone 1 week without even having a time out.

Sorry this update got long -- just really happy it's working, and I can see that it is very adaptable for years to come.

How exciting. It's so good that you and your DH can be on the same page and that everyone knows what's expected of them. Hope something like this is around when my kidlings get a little older.
