Re: **HELP!** Fracture/Sprain/Strain in 16 m/o during normal play!?!!??***

not all fractures and breaks have swelling. My 5 yr old broke his clavicle 3 weeks ago at T-ball. No swelling ever, and he was playing pretty good the next day.

Silly kid.

evidently, yes. a kiddo CAN have a fracture & act 'fine' except for not putting weight on it. it DOES NOT have to swell. it also DOES NOT have to 'turn funny colors'.

i finally took Mo to the er today...

we were in & out in an hour.

she has a buckle fracture in her distal radius.

i feel TERRIBLE. dh feels even worse. the nurses were really nice & while they may not have waited 4 days, they agreed they would have waited a day or so & that i did right to 'watch' it...

the 'bumps' on either side of the bone between the > < 's is where the problem is. she's now sporting a splint & will be getting a cast after the holiday.

How is she doing with the splint on? Is she messing with it? (adorable girl by the way).

Re: **UPDATED!** Fracture/Sprain/Strain in 16 m/o during normal play!?!!??***

thanks!

nope! i think that she thinks it makes her superwoman...
she's discovered it makes a neat sound when she bangs it on things like a door or her sippy cup...

she doesn't like the sling they gave her, but i plan to sew a more fashionable one, so maybe that'll help!

she doesn't even seem to notice it! they did a really awesome job, but did say it was the smallest one they had done (well the nurse at least)

they commented on her short arms...
i'm kinda glad we're seeing a orthoped. soon b/c we might have been headed that route anyway. i don't know.. at her last appt she hadn't grown any in 3 months and while she's always been in the 90+%'s, she's now in 50's for height...

it's nuts to me..
b/c from the get go we've had 'issues'
subchorionic hemorrhage @ 9 wks gest *i KNEW i'd lost her then...*
bled again @ 12 wks
normal until 35 weeks then preterm labor
hung in till 39 weeks
7 hrs of labor & 5 pushes, she was out..
all was well until she started with the seizures at 8 months...
3 months of testing & she's 'normal'
her only *other than for the seizures* sick visit was one where i thought she had a uper respiratory infection & it turned out to be an ear infection I had NO clue about..
now her 1st broken bone & she's not even 2...
what gives? i KNOW there can be SUCH bigger issues than this.. it's just kind of weird.. Chloe hasn't so much as had the chicken pox or a bad cut.. but Marley's been a different story..

cementing dh's attitude of "nope, no more kids"

i'm REALLY just SO glad i took her and we figured it out!!

Good luck!
