Question AF Type Cramps when Nursing, but No AF... Could I still be Having Contractions?

I'm nearly five months postpartum, but I still sometimes get mild-to-moderate cramping when I nurse my DD. I bled for a really long time without explanation (15 weeks) but didn't have a retained placenta or any other problem as far as my doctor could tell (and she checked several times). My OB eventually just attributed it to being an anomaly. She offered me an estrogen shot, but I declined it so that my milk supply would stay up.

I've got my first post-baby AF, which was super light and only lasted 3 days (compared to my usual 8), two weeks ago, and I've been continuing to cramp a bit, every time I nurse, since then. As I said, I was checked repeatedly for retained placenta and infection, and I had neither of those. No fever, discharge, etc., either.

So what gives? Did anyone else keep having contractions while nursing, this late in the game? Or am I just a freak? Should I be at all concerned?

Re: AF Type Cramps when Nursing, but No AF... Could I still be Having Contractions?

I had cramps/sensations for about that long... As long as they are not really severe, I wouldn't worry, but I'm not an expert! If they are really bothersome, I would check with an LLL leader or a BF consultant. OB's and even MW's are not always the best informed on breastfeeding.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the response.

Bump to see if anyone else has input?
