Cloth diapering foster/bio kids

I am not a fosterparent but have thought about it a lot and maybe will someday. There's a situation right now that might be happening and although it's probably unlikely I would be totally willing to take in this couple's baby if needed. So it got me thinking about my cloth dipes and my LO who is 10 mos... anyone have experience sharing cloth dipes between non-siblings? Is that totally fine, or should they have separate dipes?

I'm planning to CD our foster kids that are in dipes. DD isn't in them anymore, so that isn't an issue.
I'd say once they are medically cleared if you have to share, ok. My plan is to use mainly prefolds and each kid have their own and share covers. I'm thinking of a color code system. Honestly though I am not worried if they share, but want to make sure that I don't have any isues with the county.

We share diapers in our house. I don't see why you couldn't unless there was a medical reason?

Re: Cloth diapering foster/bio kids

I have not mentioned it to cw in case cloth dipes are not allowed. Cant tell me no on something I havent asked! Although when I mentioned doing laundry, he said stinky baby diapers and I said yes, so I think he knows.. Anyway! Yes, I plan on having them share dipes and covers (we use flats and prefolds). I dont see the big deal. Once it's washed, it's washed.

Both of my foster babies (they are non siblings) are cloth diapered and they end up sharing diapers on occasion. The social worker found out by chance just the other day because I needed to change my son while she was over for a visit. It was pretty funny, she was totally shocked and confused by the whole CD thing she just couldn't figure it out

Re: Cloth diapering foster/bio kids

My son (fostering to adopt) wears my daughters (bio) diapers. Once they have seen a Dr (there are some stomach issues that could be passed back and forth), I see no reason to not share.

I usually keep all the diapers of a new placement separate for a month or so until I can be sure that they don't have something that could be passed between little ones. That maybe excessive though because shortly after arriving at my house the new little ones are sharing toys (read-slobber) with the rest of the kids.

Re: Cloth diapering foster/bio kids

There's no problem CDing foster kids in general (though some daycares might want disposables). I don't see why sharing cloth diapers should be a problem - I mean they're clean, and kids share clothes sometimes. Depends on whether the diapers fit both kids too!

Re: Cloth diapering foster/bio kids

I have always shared them. I figured if they are not clean enough, then I shouldn't be using them on anyone.

I started using cloth dipes in earnest due to having 3 girls in dipes . Luckily they all fit size large fuzzi bunz so I bought about 24 of them for them to share. I was "saving" money

Most CW are so unaware of cloth dipes that they don't even make a big deal about them. I also got a Dr.'s note for daycare saying that they HAD to use them.
