Re: Anyone have a small (under 6lbs) full term baby?

DS1 was 5lb 14oz when he was born at 37 weeks. He had trouble with nursing and gaining weight at first, and was at the very bottom of the growth charts for weight and height the first year. Somewhere around 2, I think, he started to catch up and has been in the 30-50th percentile for several years now. Still not huge, but very average.

Re: Anyone have a small (under 6lbs) full term baby?

Our DD was 1 day over 36 weeks and 4lbs4oz at birth. She never had any trouble, she was just TINY. Our doc had told us at our 34 week US that she was gonna be petite, she just didn't hink that petite. She is now 7 months and 15 lbs. She averages about 25% on the charts and is doing fine. She is just probably gonna be small. I am 5'3" but DH is 6'2", there is never any telling, as long as they are healthy, I wouldn't worry too much.

DD was born at 42 weeks and was 6 lbs even. Now at 4 yrs, she is on the charts for the first time, granted hugging the bottom. She is 28 lbs and average height - 20th%.
She hit all of her devlopmental milestones on time or early. She is just naturally thin and small boned.

I wouldn't stress over it. You just never know when a growth spurt will hit.

Re: Anyone have a small (under 6lbs) full term baby?

My DD was small at birth (4.8 lbs) but now at 9 months she is just below the 50%. She does seem to be a bit behing other kids, but I think that is due more to the fact that she had bad reflux and had to be upright all the time so she didn't get to get down on the floor and "play."

I did have issues while pregnant though. My placenta wasn't of good quality and came apart paritally (sometime between week 36 and 38). Also, her umbilical cord had a blood clot fully blocking one vessel of her umbilical cord and the cord was tied in a loose knot. They estimate that by the time she was born she was only getting about 10% of the nutrition she should have been, but no one really knows how long everything was going on.

My niece was born at 40-41 weeks and was 6 lbs 4 ozs. She's about 16 lbs now, at 14 months. She has a few other issues too though.

Re: Anyone have a small (under 6lbs) full term baby?

My daughter wasn't/isn't small (born @ 40w4, 8 lbs. 13 oz.) and was 23 lbs. 12.5 oz. and 32" tall at her 12 month well-baby visit.

She is skinny though... people assume that she's chubby when they hear how much she weighs, but her waist is tiny and she has a little bum... the only chubby parts on her are her thighs and cheeks. She can still wear 3-6 month shorts, with the cloth diaper bum.

Anyway, my cousin's children (all three of them) were born small - the first, a boy named Alex, who is now almost 8 was 5 lbs. 3 oz. and born at 40w exactly, the second, a girl named Lilly, who is now almost 4 was 6 lbs. 1 oz. and born at 39w. And the third, a boy named Dylan, who is almost 7 months was 5 lbs. 13 oz. and born at 39w.

All of them are still skinny, but very tall. My cousin's probably 6'2" and 130-135 lbs. and his wife is probably 5'5" 115-120.

Re: Anyone have a small (under 6lbs) full term baby?

DD was 5lb 13oz at birth, she was born the latest out of all my kids actually, at 38w5d...she's always been a string bean. At nearly 4, she weighs right around 33-34lb.

DS#3 was diagnosed as IUGR at 36w (I had actually started to lose weight, and he hadn't changed in size in a month) and I was induced at 38w with him...only to find out that he was 7lb even...and perfectly fine other than his reflux that he's still battling @ 17m. So even though I was measuring "small" it was ALL baby.

Re: Anyone have a small (under 6lbs) full term baby?

my friend did, but she and her dh are both small people. shes probably just over 5ft, and maybe 100lbs soaking wet. her dh is maybe 5'8 or so and skinny too. her ds is nearing 3, and still a small thing. for him, its genetic

DS was 5 lbs 14 oz when he was born at 38 weeks. It took him a good 6 months to get to "average" weight. Developmentally he did fine. At his 15 month check up he was in the 10th percentile for height and 25th for weight.
