egg substitute in cake mix
I want to make a cake for DH's birthday. I have a box mix: betty crocker's butter recipe yellow. It calls for 3 eggs. Can I replace the eggs with something else??

Re: egg substitute in cake mix
Banana puree works as a great sub. Are you replacing for health reasons? Allergies? Cholesterol? If it's just cholesterol, there may be a note on the box on how many egg whites to use instead of whole eggs. If it's allergy, look up using bananas as a sub for eggs. Somewhere it tells you the exact measurement of how much banana puree equals an egg.

Re: egg substitute in cake mix
Yes, 1/4 c applesauce per egg replaced. For bananas it is 1/2 a banana per egg. Applesauce does work

Re: egg substitute in cake mix
how do you feel about diet soda? You can actually just take a can of diet soda and pour it into a cake mix, mix, and bake. It's pretty yummy. i used to make chocolate diet coke cake all the time when i was on a low/no fat diet. With a white cake I'd use diet sprite or some other kind of clear soda.

I third the diet pop cake! 1 box of cake mix + 1 can of pop. Mix, bake to the directions on the box - done! Sooo yummy!
