Wool questions

I really would like to try wool, but I have no clue what its all about.
1) What kind of diaper is best for underneath?
2) Does it replace a cover on pfs or fitteds?
3) How do you wash it?
4) What is lanolize?
5) What is the best wool to use?
6) Where do you get a pattern?

Thanks so much!
Alana

Re: Wool questions

Well you'd probably get more responses if you put this in the diaper chatter forums, right now it's in wool, but it's in the selling section for wool

1) I use fitteds underneath. You could put prefolds but snappis might snag the wool! Many people don't use them as true covers and put pockets or AIOs underneath anyways.
2) Yes! The lanolin in wool absorbs the moisture and self cleans the wool
3) You can buy a wool wash that has lanolin in it, and wash them in the sink then air dry them, that will also lanolize it, they don't need washed often since wool is self cleaning.
4) Lanolizing is the act of putting lanolin into the wool. Lanolin is what makes wool such a great cover, absorbant and self cleaning. You can use a drop of regular breastfeeding lanolin in water, you can buy a lanolin spray to spray right into the wet zone, or buy a woolie wash with lanolin already in it.
5&6 I don't know because I'm just a user, not a maker

Re: Wool questions

1) What kind of diaper is best for underneath?
I use fitted under our wool

2) Does it replace a cover on pfs or fitteds?
Yes it does! Function and fasion all in one!

3) How do you wash it?
I handwash ours in lukewarm water with Ewe Need It woolie wash. Gently wash it and then I let it set in the sink for about 1/2 an hours. Gently squeeze excess water out. I take a big towel, fold it in half and lay wool on it. I jelly roll it in the towel to get the remainder of the water out. Then unroll and leave it flat to dry. I spray it with some lanoline spray after it's dry.

4) What is lanolize?
It is the process of getting your wool "waterproof". Comes in spray or solid form. Normally you do this a few times a month to keep your wool bulletproof.

5) What is the best wool to use?
I asked a WAHM this question and this is what I got. BFL is the best bet for crawlers and scooters. It holds up better. Merino is better for NB and those that are toddling.

6) Where do you get a pattern?
I'm sure you can google it. Try "Patter: Wool Knit Longies"

Re: Wool questions

1) What kind of diaper is best for underneath?
Any. Well, I prefer it over a trimmer fitting diaper, but we also use it over our bulky night time fitteds.
2) Does it replace a cover on pfs or fitteds?
Mostly fitted, but since I starting using wool, I've ventured into pf. I also use it over pockets that might leak on long car rides or at the church nursery where they may not change him.
3) How do you wash it?
I use Buddha Bunz wool wash. I put a little in a large bowl, fill it with cool water and squish it around. Then it let it soak for an hour or so (but this can be shorter).
4) What is lanolize?
I don't have to lanolize when I use Buddha Bunz.
5) What is the best wool to use?
I prefer crochet but knit and recycled is great too. I've haven't tried interlock or crepe yet.
6) Where do you get a pattern?
My pattern is my own creation. Dandylion Dreamers and LadyBugz both sell good crochet patterns.
