How do I add in a pumping session?

I want to add in a pumping session to bulk up my freezer supply. Only I have no idea when/how you do this.

My son has had a bottle about 3x so far, and doing very well with it. But when I pump during that, it's for the sitter. So it doesn't ever hit the freezer, kwim.

So, how do I add in an extra session? During one of his naps maybe?

Thanks!

Re: How do I add in a pumping session?

Does he sleep a longer stretch at night? What I do is pump a couple hours after I put my babies to bed every night since they sleep longer and I can get in an extra "feed" per say. I freeze that. The other thing is you can pump just after he nurses, like an hour or less. You won't get a ton, but it will sort of be "left over" from his nursing and won't take from him the next time he needs to eat. If you are fullest in the AM, that's a great time to pump after nursing. Hope those ideas help you. I've been doing the night time thing almost since they were born.

Is your lo sleeping through the night yet? That's when I would get an extra pump session in. Also, it seemed like I was fuller first thing in the morning, so about 45 min after Molly's feeding, I would pump and get like 5 oz.

I like to pump first thing in the morning while baby is nursing on the other side and then letting baby finish up after I pump on that other breast. She always wants to nurse a little sooner for the next feed but it is a great way to add a bit to the freezer.

Re: How do I add in a pumping session?

He sleeps from about 9pm until 3 or 4am. So that's a great idea. I could pump just before I go to sleep and freeze that. Or if I'm too tired I'll give it a shot in the morning. I'm always full in the morning, and it usually takes him 2 or 3 sessions before he empties either side all the way.

Thanks for the great ideas!
