Replacing parts on a BP... which ones?

Hello mamas!

Pardon me if this has been posted recently or frequently - I didn't find much in my search.

My best friend gave me her Pump In Style Medela Breast Pump.

I understand the risks of using a used pump, but feel fine about this. I want to replace some of the parts first...but I'm not sure what is what and what should be replaced.

The tubing looks cloudy - its been boiled, but that I will replace. Besides that - should I do the valves and membrane thing? Do I need to replace the actual suction cups that go on your breasts and nipples?

I'm sort of just looking for some general guidance for what you would replace if you were in my shoes...

Thanks for any input - I really appreciate it!

Re: Replacing parts on a BP... which ones?

I replaced the tubing and took it to our local birthing center and they plugged it on and made sure everything worked properly. I just used the bottles and cones (sorry I forget what they're called) from the hospital and then ended up having to buy larger cones because apparently nipple size DOES matter (FYI). I think second hand pumps are fine, I used one for a year Good luck and happy pumping!
