I got the oats, Carrie - Dh was at World market and bought them there, which of course means he paid $6 for a tin of them...can't wait to try again!!

Re: Do you like oatmeal? Tried this for DD this morning..
Ugh! I tried this last night with regular (not quick) oats and same thing - this morning it was GROSS!! I thought since the post said "steel-cut, not quick cooking" that these would be ok. I didn't bother to read down to everyone's discussion on it. BUMMER! Now my crock pot is all nasty inside....

Re: Do you like oatmeal? Tried this for DD this morning..
I live in Fairfield Iowa.
My oatmeal turned out fine....at least it didn't burn and it wasn't mush. I had my daughter Ariah (the oatmeal fanatic) try it and she said "Um.....this has no taste mom." I quick grabbed the Agave Nectar and told her to add some. She tried it again, then went to the cupboard and got a package of Quaker Oats and read the back of it. Then she told me that the reason it didn't have any taste was because I left out all the chemicals.

Re: Do you like oatmeal? Tried this for DD this morning..
That is funny stuff. We may have to give this recipe a try. We have been cooking oatmeal with thick rolled oats and I add pure maple syrup, a little butter and some brown sugar to it and it is delicious. Our favorite flavor used to be the maple and brown sugar instant stuff so when we went to the "real" oatmeal we just imitated our favorite flavor.

Glad you liked it, Brenda!!!
![]() jillkuster - Just like a kid, eh? Of course, I feel that way about natural alternatives to a lot of chemical-laden junk food, too. It's just not the same. You could always add more cinnamon or try honey instead for sweetener. It took me a while to wean myself off of all the extra sugar and salt, but now that I'm used to it, I don't miss it.

Re: Do you like oatmeal? Tried this for DD this morning..
Hey, I can't wait to make some when DH gets back from Louisville (I can't make all that oatmeal for just me to eat). But I wanted to mention that I finally found out what temperature my Rival 1.5 qt slow cooker cooked at: low.
Anyway, they're like $10, and would be perfect for enough oatmeal for a couple of people. I was thinking that if I made some for DH and I, it'd be this thin layer of oatmeal on the bottom of our 6 qt slow cooker. Those of you with smaller fam's might want one. They're handy for other stuff too, when you don't need a whole slow cooker full of cheese dip or whatever.

Re: Do you like oatmeal? Tried this for DD this morning..
OK, so I dont have a crock pot, but I did this over the stove with regular slow-cook oats. Yummy! Of course, I added a pinch of salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a bit of honey, brown sugar and vanilla extract.
I made a bunch of it then refridgerated it for the rest of the week (no time to cook before work). It was great.

Re: Do you like oatmeal? Tried this for DD this morning..
Im going to make it again. I just love waking up to food ready! Morningtime is my least favorite time to cook, though it is my favorite meal! (does that make sense) I am just not a morning person, hence I love eating out for breakfast, but that only happens once in a blue moon. Anyways, im making this again with raisens!!!!!
