I had BCBS of California and they paid 100% for the breast pump that I purchased at the hospital.
G/L!

We have United Healthcare as well. I have a Pump In Style, but if I can get a good discount on another, then I would love to get another. I may call them tomorrow. Thanks!

Kristin, I would call back and ask to speak to a manager. I'm betting the guy just automatically answered no - since you're going to have preemies and you're going to have to pump, they should cover at least part of the cost.

Re: FYI, breast pumps might be covered by insurance...
I have BCBS PPO of MI health insurance. And they covered the ENTIRE cost of a new Medela PISA.
My daughter's Pediatrician had to write me a "prescription" for it, saying that there was a medical need (she put "low supply," which was true) and then, the insurance rep told me to pick out whichever one I wanted and have them bill it to them. I never received a single bill. This was back in August 2007. It was listed in my health benefits manual... as durable medical equipment... said it covered it. I called the insurance company to verify. I'm glad I did, because we were going to buy one out of pocket that week... saved myself some money. Last edited by MW69842; 05-14-2009 at 04:49 PM. |

Man, I just got hopeful. I called United HealthCare and they said that my plan doesn't cover it at all. I'm really not surprised. It was worth a try.

We have UHC also and when I called they said the same thing even though I told them we were having twins. Didn't make a difference. Maybe I could have had my OB write me a prescription and see if that would work, but I didn't. Instead, my doula told me that Cotton Babies was having a really good deal on the Medela PIS backpacks so I bought one through them.
