Question about my baby carriers

I just started baby wearing when Meghan was born, so all I have now is funky girly flower RS or other flower or asian type slings.. Would you trade these in and get different ones (even if you really really loved them) for boy type slings or just continue to wear them anyways?? Does it REALLY matter what you wear your baby boy in a funky girly ring sling?

Re: Question about my baby carriers

I had a few funky girly pattern slings for ds, I never knew about them with dd. I though I would get something I liked because I was wearing it, not because he was a boy, but after a few different slings, dh said I need boy ones LOL. I would say go with whatever ones you like

The pouch I carry my ds in is girly. I bought it because I loved it!

Re: Question about my baby carriers

I tend to stick with things that are more "me" than my kids-- that said with DS all Ihad was one ring sling, a black Maya wrap. With DD, well, it doesn't matter LOL since we're both girls.

Re: Question about my baby carriers

I think of carriers like shoes. I don't wear boys shoes because I wear them when carrying DS, or a boyish jacket, why should I wear a boyish baby carrier? HIS clothes are boyish. Mine are not.

Re: Question about my baby carriers

We don't buy into the whole "gender stereotyping" thing anyway, but I'm wearing the carriers, so I'm going to buy what I like. The gender of my child really doesn't have anything to do with it. Not that it matters, because he's just as likely to wear pink as I am.

I tend to just buy what I like, too. Sometimes I do weigh the sex of the child into it - but since I'm just carrying the girls now and I tend to like girlier fabrics it doesn't really matter, LOL.

Re: Question about my baby carriers

I never thought about it that way. I just didn't find out the sex of my first 2 children, so I didn't take their gender into account when I got carriers. I got a New Native in black when I had my son and The Ultimate Baby Wrap in gray (because I love the color gray) when I had my second daughter. We did find out her sex, but I didn't believe it 100% until I saw her in the flesh

Re: Question about my baby carriers

no, I wouldn't trade them in if I really loved them... if I'd gotten them as an accessory to my DD, not me, and I wasn't particularly attached to them, I might sell them and get something else but YMMV. My DH wears DS2 in all our carriers, so for his sake I stay away from super-girly stuff (and most of it doesn't appeal to me anyway )
