question about BOY potty learners

DS is 16 months and we have just started potty learning since he has shown much interest in the potty. my qeustion is, do you teach them to pee standing up or just sitting down at first? we have been showing him how to use the potty sitting down, but i don't want it to be confusing and have to teach him to learn to do it standing up. but being so young...i'm sure he will have NO AIM at all...so it could get messy. lol what do you all do for your boys?

Re: question about BOY potty learners

My son pees sitting down.

I imagine that we'll teach him about peeing standing up in the future, but that just seems like asking for trouble right now.

Re: question about BOY potty learners

My son learned standing up at 18 months. When he would sit down, he had a hard time pushing it down and I didn't want preschool teachers pushing it down. So dh showed him how to stand and he has stood from then on. We taught him to stand with his hands on lower back and stick his butt out....it sounds weird but it got him to the right angle. Now, first thing in the morning is another story!

Re: question about BOY potty learners

I've taught both my boys to pee sitting down. I don't think the coordination and aim was good enough to have them standing. Plus, my sons weren't even tall enough to make it in the potty standing. Though at 21 months I am thinking of trying the WeeMan...

Re: question about BOY potty learners

My 16 month old sits when he pees. He only wants to use the big potty now so its a must, he is not tall enough to stand and pee

Re: question about BOY potty learners

We taught our son to pee sitting down and he pushes down his own parts... after many wet shorts! :-)

Re: question about BOY potty learners

DS1 learned by watching DH, so he peed standing up from the beginning. It made for a wet potty for a while, but I figured since he already knew how to do it standing up, I wouldn't make him take a step backwards and do it sitting only to re-learn standing later.

Re: question about BOY potty learners

my kid's a lot older - almost 3 - so he's taller, and he stands. Mostly 'cause he started learning in the backyard against a tree (cutest thing ever!!) and wanted to be like daddy.

Re: question about BOY potty learners

I have three boys and lucky me, DS1 was PT at 26 months IN ONE DAY!! DS2 is no going to make things so easy though... Turning 3 next week and still refusing to give up on his dipes. WHen he goes, I make him sit, better aim and standing comes naturally later. DS1 sat for a long time as well. One day, figured he's stand and never went back! ; ) Whatever works for him, is the way to go!
