Do I HAVE to introduce solids at 6 months?

Is there a medical/health reason that 6 months is the number that everyone throws around? Do they need food at that age?
My son is about to be 6 months and is EBF. He is a pretty big baby and is gaining weight just fine. I don't know, breastfeeding is just so easy, I don't know if I want to complicate things by adding food now.
Anyone else feel this way?

Maddie didn't start eating solids until 10 months old. At 10 months, she had her full blood workup done and her iron and all was perfect. She was EBFed the whole time.

Nikolas was EBF until 10 months and didn't really start solids until 12 months and no real meals until 14ish months.

Re: Do I HAVE to introduce solids at 6 months?

We didn't start solids until much later, close to a year. And DS was certainly a year before he ate "real food" every day. He's happy and healthy and fine now at almost two, so no problems there. I found breastfeeding so easy, and solids to be more of a pain, so I didn't start until he let me know he was hungry for more. And trust me, he let me know when he was ready for "real" food! So don't worry mama, and go with your instincts!

Six months is the *earliest* that people are supposed to introduce solids. You can certainly wait if you want.

This.
Most EBF babies will just go straight to table food also.

It is perfectly fine to wait. You may want to have your LO's iron tested to see if he needs an iron supplement.

Just start solids when you're ready or when your lo starts showing interest. Foods at this age are more for experience than nutrition.
