Probiotics while nursing? OK?/Not OK?

Anyone know? Any comment and suggestions welcome. I just feel I could benefit from Probiotics!

Probiotics are as safe for nursing as eating yogurt. Since the active ingredient in yogurt is the same as that of a probiotic. In fact I give my children probiotics when needed as well. I say it is totally safe and NOBODY has ever told me different. When you FF they tell you to suppliment with probiotics because of a child's stomach flora. I say go for it.

OK. I have to take them to help fight off thrush. For that it's even recommended. Go probiotic away, LOL.

Probiotics are excellent for most nursing moms! Same things as in yogurt. Lots of moms use them regularly to avoid yeast infections and thrush....it's great if you have a thrushy baby (sawb some in baby's mouth - Udo's Choice Infant's Blend Probiotic work well....babies and toddlers have different flora in their guts than older people), or a baby girl with a yeast infection down there. Make a paste of them with some Butt Paste and waa-laa! Yeast gone. Ok, TMI, but hey, they're great!

I'm glad somebody posted this! I didn't even consider the fact that it might not be safe, and I'm taking some to try and fight off a UTI that's starting. Speaking of, time to go take another one!

Probiotics are for yeast, fungal infections, etc, NOT for primary treatment of bacterial or viral infections! Cranberry for UTIs.....if you take an antibiotic for a UTI (after you get it properly diagnosed by your HCP, because sometimes UTIs can mask BV or gardnerella infections....yuck), then also take the probiotics/eat a lot of yogurts during the course of the antibiotics to prevent or help with the yeasties that come with knocking that flora balance off.

Yes, by all means take priobiotics. THey're one of the best things you can take while breastfeeding and pregnant!

I asked my dr about this before DS was born and was told it was a fabulous idea and she wishes more would consider it. I take it for my acne and general health.

Yep, probiotics are good for you and baby.

You can even give baby some if necessary.
