My first nursed about an hour and a half each session (I couldn't get her off the nipple shield) My second nursed anywhere from 20 min to an hour depending on the time of day.

Oh, wow! Can't decide if I'm jealous or not. Abe was attached 24/7 up until about 6 months and even then it felt like we were nursing ALL the time. (His dad and I laugh about it now but then . . . OH, man. I'd nurse before we went to the car to go to the store, nurse once we got to the car, nurse once we got to the parking lot of the store, RUN through the store, nurse in the car, nurse in the car when we got home from the store, and then nurse when we got back into the apartment. Please note that he would be FRANTIC to nurse during most of the non-nursing times in this scenario. ) Around one year, he was able to go for several hours and if we're at home just piddling around, he'll usually go for an hour or two between 10 minute sessions. Oh, and he only nurses on one side at a time. I had some overproduction/letdown issues and found that one breast every couple of hours really helped with that.

Re: How long does your DC nurse?

From the about 2 weeks on dd nursed well under 10 minutes. Usually around 5 minutes and close to 10 minutes if she was in a growth spurt. She was a fast nurser. She hated comfort nursing as well so that was never an issue. When she was done eating she was done at the breat.

Now she nurses 1-2 minutes right before bed and that is it so I suspect we'll be done nursing in another month or so. Which is fine by me - 2 years is plenty for me - I'm ready to have my body back for awhile before getting pg again.

You know, it just really depends. If Gabe's nursing before bedtime, he usually nurses for quite a while (45min or so). If we're outside in the heat, he may get thirsty and need a quick drink, so he'll only nurse for 3 or 4 minutes tops. Most of his daytime sessions are about 10 minutes long--he is, overall, a much quicker nurser than his brother was--Samuel could stay attached all day and be happy

Taci is a fast and slow nurser. She only actively nurses for about 5 minutes, but stays latched for almost an hour.

She nurses and gets what she needs, but then just stays latched sleeping. If I try to pop her off she will start to half heartedly nurse again

I'm lucky if I get Xander off the breast all day long. (Not that I'm complaining too much, since we finally managed to cut out the formula). It's not really that he nurses forever, but he always wants a nap afterwards, and goddess forbid I take that nipple out of his mouth while he's sleeping!
