After 1.5 yrs I'm about to throw in the towel *please help*

I am so irritated and with 2 kids who NEVER nap, I seriously can't deal with anymore.

OK, so... I am dealing with some stinky issues. I saw the sticky about how to get rid of them, but my problem isn't getting rid of them when it happens, it's that it happens ALL THE TIME and I can't figure out why. I cloth diapered my daughter for over a year w/ no issues, and for the past few months (maybe around the time DS was born) we've had almost constant stinky problems. It's definitely the inserts. If I hold them up to my nose, some of them smell after they come out of the wash. The are fresh and fine after I bleach them, but then in a few days, it's back to stinkyness.

I have a normal routine: washing with Dawn, baking soda, and vinegar. I even added more Dawn once we started washing DS EBF poop in the load, but that didn't help. We have hard water, but we've always had it and it wasn't a problem for the first year. Why is it happening so often? I'll literally strip with bleach, and two days later they smell again.

Should I change from Dawn to something else? Should I add Calgon? I have no clue what to do. Help me please! I'm about to give up. :-(

I would definitely suggest changing to something else, and it might not hurt to try Calgon or RLR as well.

With the stinkies happening again so quickly, the diapers definitely aren't getting completely clean in the wash.

I'd definitely try RLR or Calgon and Crunchy Clean/Simply Clean.

as the pp's said try a water softener additive. just a shot in the dark, maybe it's the detergent, have you switched lately? Or maybe add more? Just throwing out ideas. Maybe try oxiclean baby in every load?

I say try Simply Clean/Crunchy Clean detergent. It has helped us!

Depending on how hard your water is, calgon might make it worse. I know it didn't work at all for me. I use crunchy clean and vinegar. I've been spraying every dipe with bac out, but i'm thinking that might be giving me slight issues, so i'm going back to just crunchy clean and vinegar. I also found that dawn gave me MAJOR stink issues because of the minerals in my water. Good luck mama!! Just for reference, i have a water softener and an iron filter and still have hard well water. Good luck!!!

seriously, try some tide. one wash and stinkys were seriously deminished, 2-3 more washes, and stinkies have been gone for over a month now!

Previously I was to the point were I would bleach and rinse and rinse, and stinkies would come back in 2 loads.

I'm very happy with tide.

Maybe get rid of the inserte too? This would help in conjunction with the pp. It's not the cheapest solution, but at least you could start from scratch. What about using bac out on the dipes before putting them in the wet pail? HTH! Good luck! I understand your frustration. With kids who don't nap, who needs one more thing!?!?

From what I understand, microfiber inserts hold odor worse than other more natural (hemp, bamboo, etc) fibers. I'm trying to slowly switch because I just can't stand the smell in my inserts. Oh, and any hemp or bamboo ones I have don't seem to have the smell. HTH! Good luck
