*UPDATED WITH VIDEO* how do you know when it's time for REAL table food?

my daughter is 11 months old. i've been making her baby food since she started solids at 5.5 months. up to this point i've always pureed everything. she does eat the gerber puffs and freeze dried fruit pieces but that's as "real" as it gets for her. but i'm wondering if she's ready for her meals as just pieces of food? we have given her bits of what we have had for dinner along with her pureed stuff. she's had pieces of chicken, spaghetti, bread, vegetables, fruits, etc. she also eats yogurt.

i guess my question is am i making more work for myself by still cooking and pureeing her food? or can i just go ahead and start feeding her our meals chopped up?

UPDATE: she did SOOOO well!!! i made her a grilled cheese sandwich (i was going to wait until a year to do dairy but that is less than a month away and pedi said i could start her with cheese at 9 months). here's her video eating. i was so proud!!!

Re: how do you know when it's time for REAL table food?

DS is 9 months old and has been eating table food since he started solids at 6 months. So I'd say go for it. Since she's not used to it you may want to start with semi soft things, like banana or avocado and see how she does.

DS chews things very well, including meats, etc. and his gag reflex is really good, if something is too big he just hawks it right back out. I believe feeding purees can dull some of the natural instincts to gag out things they can't chew up so you may want to start slowly.

Google Child Led Weaning for more info.

I say just start out with really soft table foods and go from there. My DD never did babyfood, she always refused it so we just did soft table food from the beginning. I've heard the longer you wait to do it the harder the transition is.

My foster daughter was eating table foods from about 7 months old. I say go for it, you'd be surprised at what she can eat!
