worried about dehydration

now that ariana is getting solid food on a more regular basis (once daily), i'm worried about her becoming dehydrated. should i be giving her water? is it silly to worry about it?

on a side note, MAN this child loves food!

Re: worried about dehydration

Nah. You don't have to worry about water. Just always make sure that you nurse/bottle feed your LO first, before solids when they're under a year old.

Re: worried about dehydration

i started giving my ds a sippy of water with his food when we started solids at 6 months. he just turned one, and he didnt really start drinking more than an ounce or so a day until maybe 2 months ago. now he usually has the cup available all day, as well as nursing on demand

I don't think so. If she starts getting listless and won't play, eat or nurse, she's dehydrated. Other than that (if she's acting normal), she's had plenty of fluids. (My dd was hospitalized for dehydration due to sickness when she was 2, so I know the signs.)

Re: worried about dehydration

don't worry about it. as long as things are coming out ok the other end, you're good!

you especially don't want water to fill her up and replace breastmilk, so a few sips is ok but don't at this age i'd be more cautious about overdoing water than underdoing it...
