Re: What do you wish you knew then? CDing a newborn
Next time, I think I will do fitteds & wool, and I think I will LOVE wool/fleece sleepsacks. Both my girls LIVED in those little gowns when they were first born (or maybe for the first few months, lol), and now that I know I love wool on my 22 mo dd, I know I would have loved it with a NB too. And our meconium with dd2 was gone by about day 2. She nursed a lot, and all that colostrum really cleared her out.
We ended up using the sposies the hospital gave us until they ran out & I made myself start trying out the CDs (I was a little skeered since it was my first time), so we started her at about 1-2 weeks with prefolds & covers.

Re: What do you wish you knew then? CDing a newborn
OK, not quite about a newborn exactly... but I wish I had known about mama cloth & the whole world of cloth when I had dd (cloth nursing pads, family wipes, etc.). I would have really loved those, especially just after having a baby! I think I made my nursing pads when dd was 6months or so, after I found DS and bought a serger, but they would have been so nice to have from the start.

Re: What do you wish you knew then? CDing a newborn
yes to mama cloth. I don't have any and I ended up getting a bad skin irritation on my girlie bits due to sposie pads. Not cool on an already tender area. So I've been using cut up towels and washcloths for lighter days.

Re: What do you wish you knew then? CDing a newborn
My big issue with nb cding was that newborns sleep so much! Personally, I didn't like my wool or fleece with Evie when she was really tiny because she slept so much that her diaper would get completely soaked and we'd get compression wetness. When I came on here to ask about it, people told me to change her more often, but when I'm already sleep deprived I didn't want to wake her up to change her every hour! She would NOT sleep through a change...she hated it the first few weeks and always cried through it. I also didn't like the idea of her sitting in a soaked diaper with a pul cover, so I ended up using fleece liners. Now (2.5 months) we're perfectly happy with fitteds and wool for day and pockets at night. I'm not completely sure what we'll do with the next baby as a nb.
